Prokard Explorer by Marriott Benefits Programme – Terms & Conditions
Your participation in Prokard Explorer By Marriott will be governed by the Terms & Conditions set out below. These Terms & Conditions are binding and enforceable against every Prokard Explorer By Marriott Member (“Member”, “you” or “your”).
The reference to “Participating Hotels” referred to below and where relevant, the relevant entity forming part of the Marriott International group of companies that manages and administers Prokard Explorer By Marriott.

WHAT IS PROKARD EXPLORER BY MARRIOTT?
Prokard Explorer By Marriott is a marketing program of Marriott International offering benefits and privileges to Members (“Prokard Explorer Benefits”) in relation to accommodation and meals at various Participating Hotels.
Prokard Explorer Benefits are applicable at Participating Hotels only. Prokard Explorer Benefits are not available at any hotel that leaves the Marriott International portfolio. A full guide to all Participating Hotels is available on our Hotel & Restaurant Guide.
Marriott International does not guarantee that any or all of the Prokard Explorer Benefits will be available at Participating Hotels at all times. Prokard Explorer reserve the right to change, modify, limit or cancel any of the Prokard Explorer Benefits at any time. This may include increasing or decreasing any requirements for a reward, changing the value of rewards or limiting the availability of rewards, and changing Prokard Explorer partners. Please note that restrictions and conditions may be applicable to Participating Hotels outside of South Africa as set out below.
MEMBERSHIP AND FEES
Any individual over 18 years may join Prokard Explorer By Marriott by paying an annual membership fee.
Prokard Explorer Benefits are only available for as long as you remain a fully paid up member of Prokard Explorer By Marriott. When your Prokard Explorer By Marriott membership terminates for any reason and you do not renew your Prokard Explorer By Marriott membership, all Prokard Explorer Benefits also terminate.
Prokard Explorer Benefits are non-transferable.
Your Prokard Explorer membership entitles you to accommodation & dining benefits as set out below:
Discounted Accommodation Rates
10% discount off the retail rate at all Participating Hotels, including during peak season
Your Prokard Explorer membership entitles you to dining discounts for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner at certain restaurants at selected Participating Hotels, whether you are a resident in the hotel or simply visiting for a meal. You will receive
25% discount off your food bill when you dine alone
50% discount off your food bill when 2 people dine
33% off your food bill when 3 people dine
25% off your food bill when 4 to 12 people dine
Due to the current situation, the Prokard Department will not be issuing any plastic card and we have now introduced a new Prokard Explorer by Marriott digital membership card which needs to be download from your profile. Go to prokardexplorer.com and click on “Download your Prokard”.
Only 1 Prokard Explorer membership may be used per table or per reservation
The Prokard Explorer digital membership card must be presented on arrival at the restaurant.
The dining discount will apply if one main course of the menu has been ordered at the participating restaurant (excludes any terrace, pool or bar menu).
The dining discount does not apply to any beverages
The dining discount does not apply on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or for other special events, conference rate, promotions, room service or in conjunction with rates inclusive of meals
RESTRICTIONS ON BENEFITS
Prokard Explorer Benefits are subject to the standard terms and conditions and rights of admission of the Participating Hotels Prokard Explorer reserve the right at any time, in their sole discretion, to suspend, cancel or withdraw your membership, or any Prokard Explorer Benefits, if you (i) breach or contravene these Terms & Conditions for any other reason whatsoever (including non-payment of membership fees), (ii) engage in any misconduct or wrongdoing in connection with Prokard Explorer, or (iii) engage in abusive, fraudulent, inappropriate or hostile conduct in connection with Prokard Explorer, Participating Hotels or their guests or employees in which event any and all Prokard Explorer Benefits, to the extent legally permitted, will be forfeited by you.

Joining benefits for new members – value add e-vouchers
On joining Prokard Explorer, you will receive a set of complimentary value-add accommodation e-vouchers (“Vouchers”) as set out below. The Vouchers are only applicable to paid Prokard Explorer Members and will not apply to a complimentary membership.
Vouchers can only be redeemed via your online profile on www.prokardexplorer.com.
You will receive:
1 x complimentary night Voucher – Enjoy one complimentary night’s accommodation at any participating Protea Hotel by Marriott (South Africa only)
3 x Classic Vouchers Stay 1 Get 1 complimentary Voucher – Enjoy 1 complimentary night’s accommodation at any participating Protea Hotel by Marriott, when you spend one night on your Prokard Explorer rate (10% off Retail Rate)
2 x Premier Stay 1 Get 1 complimentary Voucher – Enjoy 1 complimentary night’s accommodation at participating Marriott, Autograph Collection, Westin, AC Hotels and Protea Hotels by Marriott, when you spend 1 night at your Prokard Explorer rate (10% off Retail Rate)
Prokard Explorer membership packages, and Prokard Explorer Benefits, including Voucher packages, are reviewed annually and are subject to change on an annual basis in the sole discretion of Protea Hotels by Marriott®.
SHARING OF VOUCHERS
- A maximum of Two (2) Stay1Get1 vouchers can be shared through the duration of your current membership.
- A Prokard member cannot share the Free Night
- The members voucher recipient will automatically receive a free Prokard This membership will only be valid for 3 months from date of the voucher shared or the same expiry date as per the Prokard member’s membership.
- The voucher recipient will need to activate their Prokard Member profile in order to login and utilize the voucher.
- Upon activation of the Prokard membership, the voucher recipient will unlock the Prokard dining benefits which entitles them to discounts of up to 50% at participating restaurants.
- The voucher expiry date will remain the same as the original date of the voucher. Should the voucher still be valid when the membership expires, the voucher recipient will need to join Prokard Explorer as a paid member.
- Vouchers that have been shared cannot be returned to the Prokard member.
- Should the voucher recipients Prokard membership be expired, the existing membership will be valid for either 3 months or the same expiry date as the Prokard holders membership.
- Should the voucher recipients Prokard membership be active, the Prokard holder membership expiration date will remain unchanged.
- Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and cannot not be extended.
- Vouchers cannot be booked for a date beyond its expiry date.
- The first night of your 2-night stay must be spent on your discounted Prokard Explorer rate (10% discount off the Retail Rate). Special Prokard Explorer offers, or weekend rates do not apply. These Vouchers apply to accommodation in one standard double room and often do not include meals, which will be confirmed upon making your booking.
- Complimentary accommodation is granted on a first come, first served basis. All hotels have a limited number of rooms available each month for this benefit.
- We have now upgraded our booking engine platform and require a credit card or debit card details for all bookings done on our website (even the Prokard free night). No money will be deducted when making the booking.
- At certain hotels, due to high demand and at the discretion of the hotel’s management, complimentary accommodation may not be granted over public holidays, school holidays or during any major sporting event, festival or peak period. Certain hotels may only accept complimentary accommodation reservations during the week or over weekends and it is up to the hotel discretion if a deposit is required.
- Vouchers may not be used in conjunction with any other complimentary accommodation vouchers.
- Only 1 Voucher will be accepted per stay.
- Vouchers will only be honored if accommodation is booked in advanced.
- Participating Hotels in Namibia, Protea Hotel by Marriott® Mahikeng, Protea Hotel by Marriott® Dorpshuis & Spa Stellenbosch, Protea Hotel by Marriott® Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton and African Pride Irene Country Lodge, Autograph Collection, Protea Hotel Fire and Ice! by Marriott Melrose Arch and Marriott Melrose Arch do not accept Stay 1 Night, Get 1 Night Free and Free Night vouchers.
- Participating Hotels in Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Uganda, Tanzania & Nigeria accept Stay 1 Night, Get 1 Night Free but NOT Free Night vouchers.
- Protea Hotel by Marriott® Harrismith Montrose & Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott® Pretoria Menlyn accept Stay 1 Night, Get 1 Night Free but NOT Free Night vouchers.
- The hotel reserves the right to restrict voucher availability up to 30 days in advance.
- Any extension of stay following the use of Vouchers will be offered on the best available Prokard Explorer rate per day bookable via the website. You will need to book again.
- Vouchers may not be exchanged for cash and have no cash surrender value
- Vouchers may only be used to book accommodation at a Participating Hotel. If any booking made with a Voucher is thereafter cancelled, for any reason whatsoever, the period of validity of the Voucher continues from the date of first issue thereof and is not re-issued on the date of cancellation of the booking. Vouchers may only be redeemed while the beneficiary is a fully paid-up Prokard Explorer Member.
- The use of Vouchers is subject to the standard terms and conditions and rights of admission of Protea Hotels by Marriott® and/or the Participating Hotels.
MARRIOTT BONVOY POINTS
To qualify for Marriott Bonvoy points, it’s imperative that you check-in with your Marriott Bonvoy membership number. Your Prokard membership digital card must only be used at the restaurant.
Please ensure that you keep your current personal information such as your full name, email address and telephone number up to date.
Protea Hotels by Marriott® is committed to ensuring that any personal information submitted by you is treated with the utmost privacy and confidentiality. Protea Hotels by Marriott® has reasonable safeguards in place to protect your personal information when such information is submitted, accessed, stored or handled by Protea Hotels by Marriott®. Protea Hotels by Marriott® undertakes never to use, sell or make available your personal information to any third party unless allowed or compelled to do so by applicable law or with your prior written consent.

These Terms & Conditions contain links or references to partner benefits on third party websites (“Third Party Websites”) which are outside of our control. Protea Hotels by Marriott® is not responsible for the practices and/or privacy policies of those Third Party Websites or the “cookies” that those sites may use.
Notwithstanding the fact that these Terms & Conditions may refer to or provide links to Third Party Websites, your use of such Third Party Websites is entirely at your own risk and Protea Hotels by Marriott® is not responsible for any loss, expense, claim or damage, whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising from your use of such Third Party Websites or your reliance on any information contained thereon.
These Terms & Conditions are binding and enforceable against all Prokard Explorer Members.
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
You agree that your domicilia citandi et executandi (“domicilium”) will be the address provided by you when you registered as a Prokard Explorer Member for the purposes of receiving any written notices in respect of these Terms & Conditions. You may, by written notice to Protea Hotels by Marriott® vary your domicilium to any other address which is not a post office box. Should you have any questions or queries under these Terms & Conditions, please contact Protea Hotels by Marriott® at +27 21 4305000.
All provisions and the various clauses of these Terms & Conditions are, notwithstanding the manner in which they have been grouped together or linked grammatically, severable from each other. Any provision or clause of these Terms & Conditions, which is or becomes unenforceable in any jurisdiction, whether due to voidness, invalidity, illegality, unlawfulness or for any other reason whatever, shall, in such jurisdiction only and only to the extent that it is so unenforceable, be treated as pro non scripto and the remaining provisions and clauses of these Terms & Conditions shall remain of full force and effect.
If you joined Prokard Explorer as a result of being approached in person or after having received communication via telephone, email or any other electronic communication, you are entitled to cancel your Prokard Explorer membership without providing reasons and without cost or penalty to you on written notice to Protea Hotels by Marriott® within 5 business days of joining Prokard Explorer, failing which your Prokard Explorer membership shall continue on these Terms & Conditions. If you received the incorrect information regarding our Prokard benefits we will also refund your membership fee within a month from purchasing it but we will not honor the incorrect information received. Protea Hotels by Marriott is not responsible if you are not using your benefits while you are an active member and you may not claim for a refund or an extension.
